deVOL’s LA Showroom – The Classic English & Heirloom Kitchen

In October I was lucky enough to fly over to sunny Los Angeles to help with the opening of our brand new showroom in West Hollywood! A very exciting, fun, busy, whirlwind of a week and I’d love to go back and do it all over again. Located at 740 N La Cienega Blvd, our latest space is so beautiful and so inspiring and we’re really proud of how it has turned out. We think our handmade English furniture and accessories look right at home over on the West Coast. We’d absolutely love for everybody to pop in and take a look around and see what we have created but for those who can’t travel to LA, I am going to show you each space here on our deVOL Journal.
We’ll start with the display in the huge window at the very front of the showroom. A Dairy Table from our Heirloom Collection takes centre stage. It has been topped with Carrara marble which has a really cool and interesting grooved border. Helen and Robin noticed this detail on an antique dairy table during a visit to Lanhydrock House and decided to incorporate something similar here. Back in the day it would have been filled with water to keep the stone cool for the cheeses being stored on the surface, such a clever idea and one that actually looks really good too.
Either side of the prep table, against each wall, are open cupboards with slim drawers and a black granite worktop. A giant plate rack has been fitted above each. Again, all from our Heirloom Collection and just so impressive. This is my absolute favourite example of our Trinity Blue paint, it is as if it was mixed up for this very spot. It is the perfect companion to the terracotta tiles underfoot and our simple yet charming Ditsy Delft Wallpaper behind.
Turning around and going down a step, you will see the main kitchen display in this room. Designed using our Classic English and Heirloom ranges of furniture, this space has the most incredibly tall ceilings and grand proportions so the cupboards and accessories had to be substantial and impressive, a few little cupboards would never suffice in here!!
The cooker run has a stainless steel Lacanche with a rather amazing deVOL copper canopy above, mixing metals has never looked so good. Either side of the range cooker you’ll find a Classic English cupboard with a drawer up top and doors below. They have been painted in Princelet Pink, a soft and unassuming shade from our Shaker collection.
The pink doesn’t stop here. On the opposite wall is a large Heirloom sink cabinet, painted in the same hue, with an undermount deVOL Polished Brass Sink, our iconic brass taps and a slab of honed black granite. Cream Subway Tiles have been fitted behind (they are actually installed throughout the space) right up until they meet a very grand looking shelf.
At the end of this run is a Butler’s Pantry, another piece from our Heirloom Collection and one, I think, is the absolute ultimate cupboard. Traditional and useful, it would look great in any kitchen – or any other room in the house for that matter…
Described by our Creative Director, Helen Parker, as the ‘janitor’s sink area’, this little set up beside the pantry is a very cool addition. I love how luxurious yet utilitarian it is. Fitted with one of our single bowl fluted-front Carrara marble sinks and just one of our brass bathroom taps, it’s simple but so good. And notice the iron hooks fitted just below and above, these were all made in our forge at Cotes Mill and are ideal for hanging a tea towel and bucket from.
In the middle of the room, a huge Classic English island has been installed. Finished in our chocolate brown stain with a honed Carrara marble worktop, it’s such an impressive piece and provides the perfect spot for our designers to sit down and discuss and draw up plans with our customers. A really beautiful antique chandelier hangs above, glinting away as the sun streams in. You’ll find this little detail in all deVOL showrooms (the chandelier, not the sunshine, four out of six deVOL showrooms are in the UK after all!!).
And that is room number one done! Hugely impressive and brimming with details to admire. What a perfect way to kick off our new LA showroom. Up next is the Haberdasher’s bar and it might just be my favourite part of this whole place… see you there!
