place of the week: Café Kick

Working just off Exmouth market means we are super lucky to be surrounded by lots and lots of lovely bars, restaurants, cafés and pubs. One of my favourite places so far has to be café kick, it’s so nice infact that I’ve been back quite a few times! It’s hard not to love this quirky little place, as soon as you walk in you feel like you’re on holiday, like you could be in a little bar in Rio or Lisbon, it’s got that south american/latin vibe to it and I love it.

CAFEKICK-1-new

Café Kick has a retro-cool look, it’s customers have helped to completely cover the walls with football memorabilia, bank notes from all over the world and the ceiling is covered with every flag from the last world cup… oh and the best bit is there are vintage French foosball tables which you can play all day for free! The place is filled with retro formica furniture and vintage door dividers which create cute little sit-in booths, it’s got that worn and weathered feel to it and you just know it’s been well loved over the years.

CAFEKICK-3

Not only is the decor on point but the food is delicious too. Café Kick’s small menu takes inspiration from Spain and Italy, they serve up beautiful salads, baguettes, charcuterie and cheese boards, tapas and a great selection of daily specials (which are yummy!) Everything is fresh, hearty and 100% home-made and you can definitely tell, the portions are generous and it’s lovely to watch your food be served up in the little open kitchen. The staff are lovely too, they’re really chilled out, attentive and helpful, but not over the top, just perfect.

CAFEKICK-4

Café Kick’s narrow little bar serves up an amazing selection of unusual beers, wines, spirits and cocktails. A glass of wine at lunch time will cost you £2 and everyday from 4pm-7pm is happy hour, cocktails are just £4.85 and bottled beers are £2, bargain!!! Happy hour gets pretty lively, there is a constant flow of drinks and yummy little bits of tapas and the foosball table competition gets pretty fierce, and loud!!

CAFEKICK-5

Café Kick really has established itself as a little gem on Exmouth Market over the past ten years, it’s definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area, whether you want a chilled out lunch or a more lively beer after work, this is the place to be… and I’ve heard it’s a pretty amazing spot to watch live football and sports too!

Café Kick also has a sister place in Shoreditch called Bar Kick… it’s just a bit bigger, there’s a few more foosball tables and it gets super, super busy on weekend nights… but it’s equally as amazing!! Check out the Kick website here.
