The LA Shaker Kitchen

Out of the glamourous bar and powder room and further into our showroom, you will find the subdued and softly comforting Shaker display. This room was designed to show our Shaker furniture at its very best, simple, functional and unfussy, but above all beautifully made.

The colour palette is reminiscent of big old London houses (particularly in Spitalfields, East London) where the kitchen was a working space and needed to be practical. So muddy, greeny browns and dark wooden floors, give a sombre and sturdy feel to the furniture and panelling. There is something quite alluring about these kinds of colours, they feel almost as if the room chose them rather than a person, which makes it all feel very authentic.

The room is spacious, so we decided to split it up into areas. The main area is well fitted out with all kinds of deVOL Shaker cupboards and a splash of opulence from the marble sink and Lacanche range cooker (but both underplayed by the otherwise simple choices in the room). The tongue and groove backboards add texture and warmth to this long run of furniture, but mostly this feature was included to create the old-fashioned working kitchen feel, which it does so well. The Classic prep table grounds everything in the room with its size and simple elegance, an absolutely perfect piece to ensure this kitchen is not only desirable but hugely practical and sociable given its size.

This room was designed to feel calm, to feel like home, to be practical and to fit into an LA lifestyle, we hope we pulled it off.
