Helen’s Stool

Description

A simple oak stool with brass foot rail, this is a perfect place to perch or a perfect place to pop a vase of flowers or a book. Pure simplicity for people who like to keep it understated.

Both the legs and top are made from strong and durable oak with a beautifully aged dark finish. The final touch is the footrest; a solid brass bar which has been finished by hand in our studio at Cotes Mill. The brass will develop a natural aged patina with use.

a little place to perch, by deVOL

After the great success of the Bum Stool, it was going to be hard to come up with anything close in terms of another stool to add to our collection, it was a tough challenge. So many of our kitchens have an island or breakfast bar or somewhere designed for perching, so stools are an important consideration for our customers. There is no point having a beautiful kitchen and then struggling to find the perfect stool. When visiting our customers' kitchens for photoshoots we get to see a plethora of stools, industrial, chunky, retro, upholstered, showy, understated they come in all shapes and sizes. The only thing they don’t really come in is petite, pretty and quite shy in their beauty.
Helen’s Stool wasn’t really designed, it was a bit of a cheat really; our Creative Director, Helen, found a lovely stool at an antiques fair and thought with a few tweaks it would be just perfect. It was small and unassuming, so to give it a little hint of glamour she decided to include a small glint of brass on the footrest, it’s not too much and it’s practical too. Of course a stool has to be sturdy but not too heavy so it can be easily moved about the floor without scratching and marking, it also has to be somewhere between subtle and striking in order to work with the kitchen it is in. We see so many over-the-top stools that take over from the simplicity of the kitchen and become the main feature and the piece of furniture you can’t help noticing at every turn. Helen’s Stool is small and discreet, it is simple and classic in design and works beautifully with our Shaker Kitchens and is perfect for those wanting a little place to perch not a statement to shout out about.
