But since designing our Victorian Washstand, we have been lured by some very ornate, Rococo-style mirrors to sit above the basins. There is something rather chic and bohemian about mixing glamorous pieces in simple, understated interiors. It’s a way of making a home feel very ‘country house casual’ and elegantly unrestrained.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003eSearching for one or a pair of perfectly sized mirrors to go above a washstand, for instance, can be really difficult, not to mention eye-wateringly expensive. There are also many very cheap imitations, so please don’t be fooled. We bought a beautiful, original Rococo-style mirror from the 18th century, and remade it here in our workshops with meticulous precision. We have gone to great lengths to achieve a really authentic finish, the cast material is tinted to resemble original red lead primer, we then painstakingly apply leaf by hand in the traditional way, and finally brush and polish by hand with antique wax.
